Sustainable Ski Production
Material Efficiency at Törn Skis
At Törn Skis, high-quality wood like poplar, ash, and oak is used to craft premium skis. But because ski lengths typically land around 180 cm, production often leaves behind a trail of perfectly good wood—just a little too short to be used.
I saw this not as waste, but as an opportunity.
This project set out to rethink how we use material in ski production. I explored ways to repurpose these offcuts and developed a method to finger joint them into full-length, durable cores. To prove the concept, I designed a new freeride ski specifically for this technique. The result? A fully functional prototype, tested on snow—and now available for purchase through Törn Skis.
